Pop Art Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Pop Art - Essay Example Self-referentiality is the situation where a comic inclines to refer to itself in a given manner. Self referentiality is the basis of recursion. This comic makes use of self-referentiality for humor in a way that makes the comic so funny. Without humor, the comic would be unexciting to read. The author uses Clyde in an extreme way to illustrate the humor. Each time Clyde sings ââ¬Ësock it to meââ¬â¢, he endures a misfortune, although solemn to him, the events are hilarious to the audience. The fact that Clyde does not sing the words ââ¬Ësock it to meââ¬â¢ but still endures a misfortune is too hysterical. At some point, he gives on people who try to sing his song. He even utters ââ¬Å"Gorblimey! It does not matter who sings it. Itââ¬â¢s my song!â⬠The extra-diegetic gaze incorporates a comic presentation that engages the audience in a situation of Persepolis. The author has used extra-diegetic gaze in this comic issue to create an emotional connection with the aud ience in an effort to deliver a message with more impact. The hearse owner runs towards Josie and Alex as they are busy chatting and asks them to help him retrieve his hearse that has been stolen. In Josie part three, Sock feels sorry for Clyde when he finds him hit and lying on the floor. The audience, in the drawn style of the emotional aspect tends to get engaged in a more detached way. Dan DeCarlo gives a more realistic experience in the exchange between Clyde and the other characters. Dan DeCarlo also uses the extra-diegetic style to supplement the impact in the scenes.

Understanding levers for organizational change the case of AB Ltd Essay
Understanding levers for organizational change the case of AB Ltd - Essay Example Whenever there is a change in the overall organizational strategy for success, it is followed by a significant change in the organization. These changes may be found in the operational management spectrum or in the total organizational culture itself. Such changes are bound to happen just as they happen in the case of any life cycle process. Under those circumstances it becomes the responsibility of the top management of the organisation to perceive the nature and methods of such changes and prepare the organization to meet the challenges of such changes. The changes are due to take place in any organization simply due to the passage of time where the organisation's life is longer and hence it may become necessary to introduce changes in the operating strategies and plans. This necessitates significant strategic practices in all functional areas of management. In order to make the change process successful it is important that the change leaders have a thorough understanding of the co ntext of change. This includes a thorough insight into the basic organizational systems and structures as well as the external environment in which the organisation is operating. Organizational context is created and renewed through tangible and concrete management actions. (Ghosal, S. and Bartlett, C. A. 1994) Unless the changes in the organisation are preceded by an in-depth analysis of the internal and external environments, any endeavour by the management to bring about changes may not produce the desired results. Thus an evaluation of performance of each link in the organization is an essential prerequisite for effecting the organizational change. Another equally important consideration while deciding on the changes in the organization is the impact of the external environmental forces on the effectiveness of the organizational performance. With this background this paper presents a report on the nature and methods of change management in the 2.0 Change Process in AB Limited The following is the change process as evidenced by the senior management in the case of AB Ltd. The process is identified through a series of interviews with the managers and team leaders of Change management in the Company. The description involves a detailed report on the change process being effected by the company. 3.0 Change Process The process of change being a complex in nature must be well planned so that the change process is accomplished without hurdles. The change process involves the following steps: Discovery Process - Making a case for organisational change Commitment from the top management Defining change strategy Alignment of change strategy with the overall business strategy Implementation of the change and Monitoring and refinement (Kaplan Consulting) 3.1 Discovery Process The first step in bringing about any changes in the organisation is to make a strong and airtight case for the introduction of such changes. In this step the change leaders may take the help of tools like (a) Online surveys conducted on various issues that may be the core change aspect (b) High impact interview protocols may also help effectively in the process (c) An analysis of the competitive environment of the business including the analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the competitors (d) Technique of benchmarking will also be one of the useful tools (e) A well defined assessment of the customers and suppliers may also lead to the identification of change areas (f) Gap analysis is another tool that helps in the identification of changes required in the organisation 3.2 Commitment from the Top Management It is vitally important that the top leaders are prepared intellectually and motivationally for the introduction of changes as they are the people, who have to pilot the change process, sell it among other organisational members and arrange for the deployment of the necessary resources. The steps involved in this process are

Problems and disadvantages of agile software development Literature review
Problems and disadvantages of agile software development - Literature review Example Application of the software requires much input from individual and team members. Agile development requires constant adjustments to the processes for the purposes of reflecting situations as hand. In this case, the software requires individuals to constantly switch roles as needed alongside adapting to work environment. Such a domain makes processes secondary to people (Eran and Hillel, 2011). Additionally, agile does not allow for application of narrow responsibilities, policies, processes and multi-purpose methodologies. Consequently, there is much difficulty in merging agile with some organization cultures since it requires identification of a team capable of working independently from the rest (Highsmith and Cockburn, 2001). Those included in such a team are always not subject to same rules as the rest of the organization. At the same time, the constituted team cannot fit well within traditional organizational culture. The implementation of the software requires change in organi zational leadership and culture. Agile is considered a highly participative style of software development hence affecting efficiency of the processes owing to the number of participants involved. The software restricts the size of the team involved in a project which naturally extends project sizes. Barlow et al., (2011) asserts that agile team can be applicable in large projects where the project is sub-divided into relatively independent sub-projects. Such approach has negative consequences since it requires recruitment of higher-level project management capable of coordinating smaller teams (Rizwan, 2012). Development of agile software calls for sub-division of complex project based on architecture. Such division yields different results as opposed to division according to features. The software emphasizes on the use of face-to-face and spontaneous communication which limits its applications. In office environment it requires that the

SPEAKER NOTES 2 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
SPEAKER NOTES 2 - Essay Example Without passion, one can never be able to enjoy their occupation or fruits of their hard work because money can come and go but job satisfaction will always remain as a testimony. Perhaps another insight that comes up in the presentation is the fact that most people do not realize their full potential due to lack of self-esteem of adequate confidence. Undeniably, real success can never visit any person unless they discover their inner ability to the maximum and exploit it fully. Although the presentation is fair enough as far as giving insight into the business world is concerned, it is worth noting that certain issues such as the art of winning contracts and tenders require more consideration. Before one ventures into private practice, they need to consider whether they will be able to win and implement contracts successfully, as there is more to it than meets the eye. Additionally, one needs to consider whether the capital they have is enough to finance their prospective businesses . This is especially so because while some ventures require small amounts of finances to start, others require huge capital input that might drain an individual hoping to establish a start-up. Lastly but more importantly, one ought to conduct an accurate cost benefit analysis in every endeavor in order to ensure that the adverse consequences of a particular project do not exceed the anticipated benefits. When it comes to controversial issues such as the ability to achieve success without prior experience, I slightly differ with the presenter due to a number of reasons. Essentially, one needs a bit of experience so that they can be able to execute their duties effectively the absence of which they ought to learn first. This means that can has to undergo various significant stages in life before being fully qualified for any eventuality, an aspect that the speaker dint seem to mention. The controversy struck when the speaker simply mentions that they can achieve both personal and prof essional success without having to gain initial experience. Besides, the speaker does not explicitly reveal the fundamentals of professional growth that encompass dedication, discipline, and motivation from those who have achieved success. From the issues discussed in the presentation, I personally connect with the idea of having a positive attitude in whatever one is doing. Since success in career and business largely depend on the audacity with which one believes in themselves and their undertakings, I find the speakers words quite motivating to the extent that they are worth emulating. Indeed, I have interacted with these interesting perspectives in the past whereby I had to take courageous steps in choosing a career that most of my peers shunned owing to its relative toughness. Similarly, when I once wanted to start a business, I had to sacrifice my pride and begin small so that I could grow my business from strength to strength. Finally, one important insight that I gained from the presentation besides having the audacity to try out new things was that everyone is unique in their own ways and can influence the world in a different way. According to Venkataramany and Bhasin, financial inclusion and government intervention plays a major role in enhancing financial success of citizens, contrary to what was said by the speaker in the

Diabetes Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words - 2
Diabetes - Essay Example However, the International Diabetes Federation indicates that seven of the ten countries with the highest number of diabetics are in the developing world rather than where the medicines and treatments might be readily available. Increased risks of stroke and heart disease are associated with diabetes no matter where it strikes. ââ¬Å"These life-threatening consequences strike people with diabetes more than twice as often as they do othersâ⬠(American Diabetes Association, 2006). Further complications associated with diabetes include kidney disease, blindness, and the threat of amputations. ââ¬Å"In some countries in the Caribbean and the Middle East, the percentage of the diabetic population ranges from 12 to 20 percentâ⬠(Dorfman, 2007). These numbers increase every year along with the rising costs associated with health care provisions. This discussion examines what diabetes is, the lifestyle and genetic risk factors of the disease and its potential health consequences. It will also discuss preventative measures as well as proper diet and care for those afflicted with the disease. A primary factor in diabetes is the level of insulin present in the body. Insulin is a chemical the body produces naturally to mange the induction of glucose into the system. When the body produces too little amounts of insulin, greater amounts of glucose are allowed to enter the bloodstream thereby causing the symptoms of the disease called diabetes. Glucose, a simple sugar, enters the body by way of ingested food and into every red blood cell via the bloodstream; the cells then break down the glucose which acts to supply energy throughout the body. Brain cells, as well as other organs, are fueled by glucose alone. In diabetics, the body does not keep a stable amount of glucose in the cells. This means the body has more than the necessary glucose levels immediately after a meal but too

ITunes price changes hurt some rankings Assignment
ITunes price changes hurt some rankings - Assignment Example The article points out that two days after Apple iTunes Music store raised its prices on some individuals tracks, the sales dipped and with that the rankings of the songs. The iTunes top 100 chart registered 40 songs at $1.29 and 60 songs at the normal $0.99 price point. After the price change, the $1.29 songs lost 5.3 places on the chart while the $0.99 songs gained an average 2.5 chart positions. These changes give a general idea of how incremental changes in revenue can be reached. Moving up and down the chart impacts the revenue greatly which in turn is impacted by price changes. These changes are solely chart position, but a general idea of incremental changes in revenue can be reached. By looking at the unit sales of the most recent Soundscan top track downloads chart, the different between chart positions can offer a view into how moving up and down the chart impacts revenue. An assumption here is that the iTunes Top 100 chart is representative of the Soundscan top track downl oads chart. Given its market dominance, this is a reasonable assumption. I chose this article because it gives a good idea of how small changes in price can turn around Sales. A significant notion raised by this article is the way in which how prices alter the rankings of songs in the music industry. The prices change the rankings and the rankings which in turn impact sales and revenue. This article relates to chapter nine of our text book in which key issues related to initiating and responding to price changes are discussed. Buyer reaction to price changes are a result of the value the customers see in the price change. (Glenn Peoples) Works Cited Glenn Peoples, Nashville. How iTunes Price Changes Hurt Some Rankings. 10 April 2009. 19 May 2011 . Article: 7 in 10 Americans say High gas prices hurt This article is related to a recent chapter that we covered from our text book. Customers donââ¬â¢t react to price changes in a very straight forward way. A price increase is expected to lower sales. This is because a brandââ¬â¢s price and its image are closely tied together. Price changes will alter consumer perception about a particular product and the way they want to consume it. Thus price is a very critical factor. I chose this article because it offers insight into how price changes in a mandatory commodity such as gas influences the common man. The survey was conducted by USA today in which they asked people if recent changes in prices of gasoline have impacted them financially. 7 in 10 Americans believed it did. More than half of them claimed that they have had to make changes to account for higher prices of gasoline. 21% of them felt the impact so heavily that they believed it jeopardized their standard of living. (Stauss) Stauss, Gary. 7 in 10 Americans say high gas prices hurt . 18 May 2011. 19 May 2011 . Article: Apple and Starbucks announce music partnership The article talks of the Apple and Starbucks music partnership. Under this partnership, cu stomers at Starbucks will be able to wirelessly browse, look around for music, buy and download music from the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store at Starbucks on their iPod touch, iphone, Mac or PCs running iTunes in a participating location. They will also be available to avail the new ââ¬Å"Now Playingâ⬠service under which the name of the song playing in the Starbucks store at that particular moment will be shown. They will then be able to buy and download songs directly to their device. The partnership will benefit both Apple and Starbucks and is a classic example of horizontal marketing. I selected this article because I felt that having free access to the iTunes Wi-Fi Music store and the Now Playing service of Starbucks is a great ways to attract customers to both Starbucks and Apple iTunes. It will trigger greater revenues for both companies. This

Causes of the Civil War Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words
Causes of the Civil War - Essay Example As an overview, the American Civil War lasted from 1861 to 1865 where 11 states from the South of the country secede. With this secession, the 11 states established the Confederate States of America, which was primarily done in order to legislate the presence of slavery in these states. In line with this, the American Civil War must be understood beyond the context of death, but it must be taken into account that the civil war had bore many positive changes and perspective, not only to the American society and political system, but also in the worldwide perspective. To name a few, it had caused the Constitutional amendments, which allowed a stronger relationship between citizens with citizens and citizens with the government. Essentially, the most crucial result of the American Civil War was the abolition of slavery across the country. Nonetheless, it must be noted that prior to the emergence of the American Civil War, there have been cited causes of its coming into existence (The Am erican Red Cross 3; West 2).Ã The cotton gin was invented by Eli Whitney, who graduated from Yale University, and was able to go to South Carolina to tutor the children of wealthy farmers. As a graduate from Yale University, the people in South Carolina were aware of the intelligence of Whitney. One of the individuals who used this information critically was Catherine Greene, who owns a large cotton plantation in Savannah Georgia. Greene invited Whitney to her farm as a guest, and there she encouraged Whitney. to invent a machine that will allow workers to remove seen from the cotton. Whitney accepted the proposal, and after 10 days, he was able to come up with the cotton gin. With the invention of Whitney, the South was able to experience a growth in the production of its cotton. In particular, it was able to produce 8 million pounds of cotton in the span of two years after the invention of the cotton gin broke out. However, his contribution did not end here because after 12 yea rs of using the cotton gin, the American South was able to produce 80 million pounds of cotton. It was inevitable that the region was already economically up scaling due to the invention of the cotton gin (Hazen 4). The demand of cotton in the international market grew high; the American South producers considered this as an opportunity. However, the American South considered this success to be dependable on the slave labor. With this in hand, the agricultural and the societal system in the American South had greatly depended in the presence of slaves and the aspect of slavery. During the year 1860, it was recorded within the slave states that there were already 3.5 million slaves. In average, there was a minimum of five slaves and a maximum of 20 for every slave owner (Griess 7). The slaveholders of the South found that the slaves were true to their work and were more efficient. However, even with these positive working attitudes of the
